Reported Problems and Status of Problems

7/24/2010  We've had reports that sometime when selecting a different sound card the program will quit responding under Vista and Windows 7. When running under Windows XP the software will just end, without any error message.
Seems related to changing the default sound card on the computer and/or reloading sound card drivers.

Under Vista and Windows 7, click "Close Program" and restart software. Windows XP, just restart software.

Update 7/29/2010
I've not been able to reproduce the error on any of my test computers and different sound cards.

Revision History

Version 3.4.4  (Build June 2, 2010)
Fixed problem with Windows 2000 and Windows XP where software would not detect some sound card controls, especially the Microphone and Line select controls. Seemed related to older laptops, that had more than one Microphone and/or Line controls for applications such as docking stations. If the previous version detected your sound card controls properly, no reason to download this version.

Version 3.4.3  (Build May 31, 2010)
Minor code cleanup. Bit better response time when using CAT commands with Serial Port Polling (USB Serial Ports). Eliminated tendency for an audio interruption when using Xmit Only mode and CW I'der, with a sound card interface, on closure of PTT switch.

Version 3.4.2  (Build May 15, 2010)
With the change in the effects processor with the previous revision, there could be instances of the software hanging and/or stop responding when the equalizers mode was switched to receive.

Version 3.4.1  (Build May 12, 2010)
Changed Effects processor so that individual effects may be disabled. Default is one reverb is enabled. Default sampling rate is 16000 for XP and 22050 for Vista and Windows 7.

Version 3.4.0  (Build April 26, 2010)
Fixed issues surrounding using a USB to Serial convertor, by adding option to poll serial ports. USB to Serial Port convertors do not respond to IRQ interrupts.

Version 3.3.4  (Build April 3, 2010)
Fixed evaluation software (unlicensed), audio stream would get turned off after the nag screen.  We are sorry for any inconvenience.

Version 3.3.3 (Build April 2, 2010)
The revision that was posted earlier today had some debugging code in in it. Also discovered what may be a problem, with users not getting 30 hours of evaluation time. If you feel you didn't get the entire 30 hours, please email me with the particulars.

Version 3.3.2 (Build April 2, 2010)
Fixed problem where if the software was setup to use a virtual serial port for use with a CAT program AND then the virtual serial port was removed form the computer system, the software will hang when opening the setup dialog.

Version 3.3.1 (Build Feb 24, 2010)
Fixed problem with Windows 7 default folder for storing EQL files. Only Windows 7 is affected.

Version 3.3.0 (Build Feb 24, 2010)
Changed metering scheme to monitoring the audio levels going into and out of the DSP routines. This allows for simpler and more accurate settings of sound card levels. Changed DSP Attenuation control, to enable bringing up and reducing audio levels into the DSP routines. Cleaned up some parts of the Help file, to reflect the simpler audio levels setup.

Version 3.2.8 (Build Feb 21, 2010)
Fixed problem with Mute Xcvr not muting receiver or microphone audio when playing a audio clip under Vista and Windows 7. Fixed problem where the last second of an audio clip would be chopped off. Added selection of a sample rate of 8000, for users with slower computers. Made default sample rate 16000 for Windows 2000 and XP. 22050 for Vista and Windows 7.

Version 3.2.7 (Build Feb 17, 2010)
Better handling of audio interruptions due to the computer doing other tasks. Software recovers much quicker with less loss of audio.

Version 3.2.6 (Build Feb 15, 2010)
Install package that was posted on Feb 14 had extra debugging code and shouldn't have been posted. This package corrects that problem. We apologize for any inconvenience.

Version 3.2.5 (Build Feb 14, 2010)
Fixed problem with CW I'der audio breaking up with Windows 2000 and Windows XP. Software now checks to see if sound card buffers can be placed first in hardware, then in software, and lastly dynamically created. This should take care of the audio stream breaking up occasionally. Hopefully this will allow a wider assortment of sound cards that will be compatible with the RoMac 10 Band Equalizer.

Fixed problem with a CAT program such as Ham Radio Deluxe not connecting up properly through a pair of virtual serial ports, when the CAT program uses the RTS line to signal the sound card interface for transmit and receive and the Equalizer software is set to look for the RTS line to key the interface.

Version 3.2.4 (Build Feb 10, 2010)
Fixed problem when "Normalizing" an audio clip the audio clip became unusable with other applications.

Version 3.2.3 (Build Feb 7 2010)
Fixed problem where software would interfere with logging off or shutting down Windows. When Windows is going into the standby (sleep) mode, software will close itself. This is due to availability of sound devices when Windows wakes up

Version 3.2.2  (Build Feb 2  2010)
Fixed problem that turned off the audio stream when selecting "Windows Mixer(s)" under Sound Card Menu. (All Windows Versions)

Fixed problem with some sound cards showing a Line control on Playback grayed out, yet there would be a mute control for the Line. Also fixed where some sound cards would show the "No Mon" checkbox even though it didn't apply to the card. (Windows XP and Windows 2000 Only)

Version 3.2.1 (Build Jan 30 2010)    IMPORTANT UPDATE !!!!
Fixed problem with sound controls when running Windows XP. Some sound cards would not respond correctly to the Microphone and Line mute controls on the Playback side. Since the Microphone on the playback needs to be muted for proper operation, this is an important update.  Only Windows XP is affected.

Version 3.2.0 (Build Jan 29 2010)
Moved default folders for saving Setting Files (.eql) and Audio Files (.wav) to a folder under the users Document folder. Users upgrading form an earlier version will be able to move any Setting Files and Audio files to the new location. Also added option to change default folders for saving files (In Setup).
Better error handling of installation problems, especially with Vista and Windows 7. Added information in Help File to rectify the problems.

Version 3.1.4 (Build Jan 23 2010)
Added option to assert the DTR signal on serial port while using CAT commands for signaling. Some CAT interface cables derive their power form the DTR signal.

Version 3.1.3 (Build 01/18/10)
Added PTT delay control when using a sound card interface. Keeps radio in transmit while the audio buffers are cleared.

Version 3.1.2 (Build 10/12/09)
Fixed installer program where runtime files were not installed correctly on some computers. Problem would manifest itself with error messages from the software that indicate a .ocx file was out of date or not installed correctly.

Version 3.1.1 (Build 10/10/09)
Fixed problem when using an external CAT program and an Icom radio, software wouldn't translate a CAT command from the external CAT program to key a sound card interface using the RTS or DTR signal.

Version 3.1.0 (Build 08/25/09)
Added support for an external CAT program such as Ham Radio Deluxe to control the TX / RX modes in the equalizer software. Cleaned up some miscellaneous error handling routines. Cleaned up handling of non-standard sound card controls under Windows 2000 and XP. Editorial changes to Help file to reflect new features.

Version 3.0.3 (Build 08/05/09)
Cleaned up error handling with serial port setup. Software would sometimes either cause multiple error messages when serial ports were already in use by another application or crash with a runtime error. Editorial changes to Help file.

Version 3.0.2 (Build 07/31/09)
Fixed problem(s) with CW I'der was sending repeated ID's when using the "End of Xmit" option. (Especially with Kenwood radios)  when using CAT commands.

Added option to CW I'der to take care of problem problem with CW I'der when "End Xmit" was NOT selected and software was in "Xmit Only" mode, where radio would  un-key after the ID was sent when using the transmit switch on the radio. We determined that some microprocessor radios treat the transmit switch on the radio differently from a PTT or Foot Switch. Only applies when using CAT commands.

Fixed runtime errors that only occurred when running the software for the first time, when asked to automatically set audio levels. This problem may have been a problem since version 2.9.2.

Fixed problem when running the software the first time and received a runtime error when opening the "Settings" dialog. This problem was in version 3.0.0 and 3.0.1.

Version 3.0.1 (Build 07/30/09)
Fixed problem where the CW I'der was not working properly when only using CAT commands for control of the radio. Fixed timing issues with the CW I'der going off with 50 seconds left, when using the "On Time" option in the CW I'der.

Version 3.0.0 (Build 07/29/09)
Added CAT commands to support the new Icom 7200 and 7600 transceivers, with Icom's new built in sound devices. Also added CAT command support for many other popular radios, for users that wish not to have a full featured sound card interface.
Editorial changes to help file to reflect new features

Version 2.9.7 (Build 07/17/09)
Fixed issues when using the Space Bar or Rig Interface modes when sharing the serial port with a CAT program. Software would not switch into a transmit mode, and certain CW identifier modes would not work correctly when using a CAT program. Also fixed problem  where CW Identifier would not work when clicking on status bar in the Rig Interface or Space Bar mode.

Version 2.9.6 (Build 07/11/09)
Fixed problem where there were circumstances where some users would be shorted on the demo time. Users who feel they were shorted on demo time should email me with the time used and feel they have been shorted.
Also added controls on the main dialog for the High and Low pass settings.

Version 2.9.5 (Build 05/27/09)
Fixed problem when launching software by double clicking a .eql file, software would crash with an error of "Bad File Number"

Version 2.9.4 (Build 05/11/09)
Fixed problem where the Noise Gate would quit keying the soundcard interface after opening the Wave Recording and Playback dialog box. This was problem only manifested itself when the "Key Radio" option was selected.
Added option in Wave Recording and Playback to always record from Line In, if the software was is in a transmit only mode, i.e. "Xmit Only" or "Noise Gate" mode. Editorial changes to help file.

Version 2.9.3 (Build 04/06/09)
Recalibrated microphone gain control. Software will now have a bit more audio output depending on sound card type and will now be able to drive transceivers that need a bit higher audio drive to operate correctly. Previous users will have to re-adjust the audio levels. Added context menus to on the status bar for changing modes, and selecting CW I'der options. (Right click on respective item in status bar. Editorial changes Help File.

Version 2.9.2 (Build 02/23/09)
Fixed problem where CAT program would cycle the sound card interface in and out of transmit if using a shared serial port.
Removed serial port option "Assert RTS on CTS" This was causing users much confusion, and was found to be unnecessary. It was determined regardless of whether the audio was re-routed or not re-routed, that when the CTS signal was raised, then raising the RTS, had no ill effect on the operation a sound card interface.
Also removed the -20 dB checkbox on the sound card level dialog. Replaced with a slider with a range of 0 dB to -20 dB. This affords a bit more precision in reducing noise on sound cards that have noisy microphone preamplifiers.

Version 2.9.1 (Build 02/17/09)
Changed Help file regarding the modification for the RigBlaster Pro.
Fixed CW I'der when operating in the Noise Gate mode.
Fixed CW I'der keeping sound card interface in transmit, if the I'der was disabled and "Raise RTS on CTS" was enabled.
Fixed Serial Port Test in the Serial Port setup.
I apologize for the numerous problems with release 2.9.0 Build 2/24/09

Version 2.9.0 (Build 02/14/09)
Fixed problem where the microphone sound level would change if in the Rig Interface mode (Vista Only).
Added delay routine for PTT Space Bar and Rig Interface modes. Changed sound card interface examples to reflect the use of the CTS signal as just a signal to start changing to a transmitting mode, while in the "Rig Interface" mode.
Added sound card interface modifications examples in Help File for the new options on serial port signals.
Include a small utility to show which signals are used by a sound card interface.

Version 2.8.6 (Build 02/04/09)
Fixed the runtime error 5 problem, when "Run in Tray" option is selected and user clicks on the Close button (X in upper right corner), while the software is in the Space Bar mode. Also fixed problem of software not selecting the proper receive filter when first starting up, if the software was closed and started up in a receive mode.
Added option to respond separately to either the CTS or DSR signal from sound card interface unit.

This was added in preparation of dealing with the noise burst problem (Rig Interface and Space Bar Modes), by using the CTS signal to indicate the transceiver is going into transmit. Hopefully this should be done in the next few weeks

Version 2.8.5 (Build 01/19/09)
Software would leave a file named RoMac Error.txt on desktop when initializing a sound card in error. This was inadvertently left in the software when troubleshooting the Vista problem that was fixed yesterday. We apologize for any inconvenience.
